Joliet is a city in Will County Illinois and 35 miles southwest of the Chicago Loop. In 1673 Louis Jolliet and Father Jacques Marquette paddled up the Des Plaines River and camped on a huge mound a few miles south of present-day Joliet. In 1845 local residents changed the community's name from “Juliet” to “Joliet.” Joliet was reincorporated as a city in 1852. The cities industries developed throughout the late 1900s and since then the community has grown into the prosperous city it is today, with a population estimated at 106,200.
