Justice is a village in Cook County Illinois, established in 1911. The population is estimated at 13,000. The village is located 14 miles southwest of the Chicago Loop. The earliest settlers in Justice Illinois were Irish canal workers and German immigrants. By the 1850s, the Justice area was crisscrossed by Archer Avenue, La Grange Road, and the I&M canal, as well as a railroad running along the south side of the canal. Settlement continued slowly in this area of farmlands. The population was supplemented by the arrival of German farmers after the Civil War. By 1890 a small community stretched several blocks along the north side of Archer Avenue. In 1911, the residents voted to incorporate as a village and the community has since grown into what it is today.
Inspection Information:
Inspection forms are provided at the time you pick up your permits and should be submitted to the building department either by mail; delivery to the counter during regular working hours; or deposited into the silver box on the outside wall of the Building Department, when your project is completed. Inspections will be made by appointment arranged by the inspector and the homeowner. If the project is strictly outside of the residence, the homeowner need not be present. However, if the project is inside the residence, someone must be present to allow the inspector inside. If an appointment is missed, there will be a re-inspection fee charged in the amount of $40 dollars which must be paid at the Building Department before a new inspection will be scheduled.
More information on building permit requirements can be viewed in the Residential Construction Package form below. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Building Department at 708-458-2130, or by sending an email to Permits@villageofjustice.org.
