South Holland is a village in Cook County Illinois and a south suburb of Chicago. The population is estimated at 22,000. South Holland was first settled in 1846 by immigrants from South Holland, Netherlands, it's namesake. The community formally incorporated as a village in 1894 with a population of about 1,000 people. The land was originally a farming community, primarily growing onions. By the 1940s South Holland was known as the "Onion Set Capital of the World". From then, the community has grown into the successful city that it is today, with a rich history. In October 2007, Forbes.com declared South Holland to be the "Most Livable Metro-Area suburb" of the Chicago Metropolitan Area.

The Mission of the South Holland Police Department is to create and maintain a climate of safety and security within our community, while delivering quality police and customer services, treating all with respect and dignity, representing ourselves and the village in a positive manner and fostering an environment that actively solicits community participation.
The South Holland Police Department is comprised of a Chief, Deputy Chiefs, Lieutenants, Sergeants, Detectives, and Patrol Officers. The Investigative and Patrol Divisions work together in enforcing both the Illinois Compiled Statutes and the Village of South Holland Municipal Code. The Patrol Division actively patrols the 7.3 square miles of South Holland and services the over 22,000 citizens. The officers answer the calls assigned by a central dispatch (E-Com), averaging over 2,100 calls per month.
